Life if Fragile. R.I.P

Poland is grieving the loss of a head of the country- President Lech Kaczyński, his wife and 94 other important political figures that died in a tragic plane crash in Smoleńsk, Russia, on Saturday morning. The Polish delegation was flying in from Warsaw to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn mass execution of thousands of Poles by Soviet forces during the World War II. The machine crashed during terrible weather conditions- the fog limited sight to 500m. The plane broke into 2 pieces after its second try to landing. The body of president was found and returned to Warsaw.

What horrific news to hear at the beginning of a weekend while drinking a cup of coffee. I simply couldn’t believe what I was watching on TV. All the channels were talking about the same thing- crash of the president’s plane. How shocking. I think the whole world experienced the same feeling. This is the biggest loss that happened to Poland since the Katyn tragedy. It’s so difficult to believe that Poland lost so many incredible people who made the country better in the last 3 and half years.

Everybody unites in mourning in Poland.

We will all always remember every good thing that Lech Kaczyński and the rest of Polish political figures did for Poland.
This is so unbelievably sad :(

  1. As you know Justi, I kept the candle burning for Poland years and years ago and still am on your side for the recovery of people's freedom and hope after this terrible tragedy for you all. As in our personal lives, the bad and good things are interspersed and how we come through the hard knocks is what counts. I hope that the future will have other progressive leaders to bring Poland along the path of equality and build on what those lost did. They will always be a major part of the turning points of Poland's escape from its oppressed past. I will be thinking of you, your family and compatriots at this sad time until once more you rise again!

  2. Hi Justi I see that Lech Kaczynski's twin brother is to stand in the forthcoming election. I'm sure you know this. He says, 'Poland is our common responsibility, it demands that we overcome personal suffering' He stands as candidate for the conservative Law and Justice Party, on June 20th. I do not know whether you can do a postal vote to make your choice of what you believe to be right for Poland or indeed if 18 year olds can vote there? It is said he is the only man left from his party with the stature needed to stand. That is very sad. I hope that, as with our election here this week, the choices made will pan out for freedom, peace and prosperity in the years ahead. Maybe one time the empty promises and lies given in the quest for power will cease, I speak of here not Poland! May brighter times be ahead.
